Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) with non-o-chlorine substituent were
determined in several Aroclor mixtures and in PCB-contaminated soil sa
mples. Non-o-Cl substituted PCBs were isolated using porous graphitic
carbon/liquid chromatographic columns. Columns of this type provide a
simple, rapid, and efficient method for the isolation of these compoun
ds from different types of sample matrixes. The average percent recove
ry of non-o-Cl substituted PCBs from porous graphitic carbon columns w
as found to be 87%, with an average coefficient of variation of 3.1%.
