Abstract
Cancers are thought to develop as a result of sequential mutations of genes important in the control of cellular growth. Recently investigat ors identified a number of genetic defects that affect oncogenes and t umor-suppressor genes and that provide insight into the biology of ben ign and malignant thyroid neoplasms. Future implications for thyroid t umor diagnosis and prognosis are considered in this chapter.
