Abstract
The use of Bayesian inference for the assessment of forensic evidence has been advocated for some time. Most papers in this field have dealt with methods for calculating the likelihood ratio. This paper offers a scheme for assigning a prior probability to a suspect, taking into a ccount how close the suspect lives to the scene of a crime.
