Abstract
Separation of SO2 and NO from a simulated gas mixture using the hollow fiber contained liquid membrane (HFCLM) technique has been explored. Separation of SO2 from ag as mixture containing SO2, CO2, O2, and N2 h as been studied with pure water and aqueous 1 N NaHSO3 solution. Combi ned separation of SO2 and NO from a simulated flue gas mixture of SO2, NO, CO2, O2, and N2 has been achieved utilizing aqueous Fe2+EDTA or F e3+EDTA solutions. In both cases, sweep and vacuum modes of operation have been investigated. The HFCLM technique has been applied successfu lly for flue gas cleanup at 24-degrees-C; it was also found to be quit e effective at 70-degrees-C. A simplified multicomponent gas permeatio n model based on solution diffusion through the liquid membrane appear s to describe the SO2 separation as well as CO2 separation through the water membrane satisfactorily for the sweep mode of permeator operati on.
