Rs. Veazey et al., URETERITIS AND NEPHRITIS IN A BURMESE PYTHON (PYTHON MOLURUS BIVITATTUS) DUE TO STRONGYLOIDES SP INFECTION, Journal of zoo and wildlife medicine, 25(1), 1994, pp. 119-122
Nematodes identified as Strongyloides sp. were found in the ureters, k
idneys, and small intestines of a juvenile Burmese python (Python molu
rus bivitattus). Severe nephritis, ureteritis, and enteritis were asso
ciated with the presence of the parasites. Definitive identification o
f the species was not possible, but the morphology and morphometrics o
f the worms were most compatible with Strongyloides gulae, an esophage
al parasite of snakes in the lower Mississippi Valley.
