Ts. Mcnamara et al., STREPTOCOCCAL BACTEREMIA IN 2 SINGAPORE HOUSE GECKOS (GEKKO-MONARCHUS), Journal of zoo and wildlife medicine, 25(1), 1994, pp. 161-166
Two Singapore house geckos (Gekko monarchus) died as the result of a d
isseminated gram-positive bacteremia. The presence of myriad gram-posi
tive streptococci resulted in nearly complete effacement of normal tis
sue architecture. Bacteria were found in chains and produced a polysac
charide that formed thick capsules. This is the first report of this i
nfection in Singapore house geckos and describes an uncommon presentat
ion by a bacterial pathogen.
