Four organic wastes were tested as potential adsorbents for hexavalent
chromium. The results showed that this type of material could certain
ly be considered for this purpose with the best results being achieved
at pH values of 1.5-3.0. The results also showed that cellulosic mate
rials which had been subjected to some degree of anaerobic biodegradat
ion were better adsorbents than fresh cellulosic material.
