The dose equivalent response of a new type of electronic personal neut
ron dosemeter was measured in the reference neutron fields of the PTB
at various energies between thermal and 19 MeV and with neutrons from
Cf-252 neutron sources. The dosemeter, irradiated on a phantom, exhibi
ts an over-response of up to a factor 70 at energies between 200 eV an
d 100 keV. This may lead to misinterpretation of the dosemeter reading
when even small quantities of low energy neutrons are present.
