Abstract
Twenty-one male and 32 female inpatients who met the criteria of schiz ophrenia according to the Research Diagnostic Criteria were compared f or demographic, symptomatic, life history, and genetic variables. Fema le schizophrenics were marginally less likely to have auditory halluci nations; They were more likely to have early loss experiences (either bereavement or separation from a parent) before the age of 16. No othe r differences were found between the men and women.
