Kd. Ertel et al., A COMPARISON OF 2 ANTECUBITAL FOSSA TESTS WITH PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS, Journal of toxicology. Cutaneous and ocular toxicology, 16(1), 1997, pp. 19-30
Two antecubital wash protocols were compared by testing a syndet bar a
nd a moisturizer. The results show that the irritation potential predi
cted for a material is highly dependent on the conditions under which
it is tested. It is possible to generate irritation far in excess of w
hat would be expected under normal use, even for a product with skin-h
ealing effects, by using aggressive exposure conditions. The results h
ighlight a need to employ exposures representative of the anticipated
use conditions and to interpret results in the context in which they a
re generated to avoid drawing incorrect conclusions about a material's
in-use irritancy.
