Sma. Wahab et al., RELATIVE PERMITTIVITY AND ELECTRICAL-CONDUCTIVITY OF SOME DIVALENT METAL ALGINATE COMPLEXES, Materials letters, 30(2-3), 1997, pp. 183-188
The influence of a frequency on the relative permittivity epsilon(r)'
as well as the AC conductivity of metal alginate complexes (Ba2+, Sr2, Pb2+, Cd2- Or Zn2+ ions) as a function of temperature has been inves
tigated. The average values of the activation energy obtained from the
experimental data indicate that the electrical properties of the comp
lexes under investigation are similar to those of semiconducting mater
ials. The values of relative permittivity epsilon(r)' increase with te
mperature until a maximum Value designated by gamma-relaxation is obta
ined. The appearance of beta-relaxation as a small shoulder is discuss
ed in terms of the movement of the side groups and the small units of
the main chain which in turns allows the orientation of dipolar units
in the applied electric field.
