Abstract
We study the combinatorics of solitons in D < 2 (or c < 1) string theo
ry. The weights in the summation over multisolitons are shown to be au
tomatically determined if we further require that the partition functi
on with soliton background be a tau function of the KP hierarchy, in a
ddition to the W-1+infinity constraint.
