This article studies the changes produced with age in the different fa
cial tissues, analyzes how these tissues can be affected by surgical m
anipulation, and sets out certain principles that should be kept in mi
nd during facial rejuvenation surgery. Surgeons are alerted to the pos
sibility of causing iatrogenia, in the sense of interfering with norma
l facial expression and accelerating the normal aging process. We pres
ent two techniques that use these principles.
