Abstract
Water removal from paper pulps was studied in a pilot screw press. Con sistency was raised from some 3 to some 35%. Contrary to common assump tions in the literature, of monotonously (?) increasing pressure along the press, a significant pressure drop was found in the first half of the press. This finding, its causes and implications are discussed. W ays to utilize the findings to raise press capacity are presented.
