Patients who have Conn's syndrome, or oversecretion of aldosterone by
an adrenal adenoma, may present with hypertension as the only sign. Be
cause essential hypertension is so common, physicians may simply begin
antihypertensive therapy without adequately searching for an underlyi
ng treatable condition. In this article, the authors report a case of
refractory hypertension in which extensive evaluation revealed that Co
nn's syndrome was the cause.
