Abstract
Under acidic conditions, Hantzsch-type 4-antipyryl-1,4-dihydropyridine s undergo an elimination of the 4-substituent to yield 4-unsubstituted pyridines and antipyrine. The mechanism and the scope of the reaction are discussed.
