Knowledge on the canine hip dysplasia has been reviewed. Surgical tech
nique of triple pelvic osteotomy and criteria for the selection of pat
ients for operation have been detailed. During the surgical interventi
on, osteotomy has been carried out in three places (pubic bone. ischiu
m. iliac column, Figs 2 and 3), the acetabular segment has been rotate
d (Fig. 1), and then it is fixed hy a Dynamic Compression Plate in the
new position. The operation is indicated in patients with only mild d
egenerative changes in the hip joint and adequate deepness of acetabul
um. Triple pelvic osteotomy was carried out on 11 dogs suffering in hi
p dysplasia, in 4 cases on both sides (Table). Control examinations we
re carried out 10 days, 6 weeks and 6 months after the operations (Fig
s 4 to 6). After operations. the hip joint became stabilized in each c
ases, loading of the operated limb approached that of contralateral li
mb during the second control and proved to be healthy during the 6 mon
ths control. In accordance with the literature data, the authors consi
der efficient the triple pelvic osteotomy for the treatment of young,
accurately selected dogs with hip joint dysplasia.
