Abstract
The effect of plasma on the composition and temperature of the offgas produced in a CO2-O2 coal gasification process utilising a fixed bed g asifier in the batch mode was studied. The following operating variabl es were investigated: coal rank, CO2/O2 ratio in the input gas, coal b ed depth, and electrical energy input (single and three phase modes). The results showed that plasma increased the offgas temperature and im proved the reducing quality of the off gas (i.e. increased the CO and H-2 contents). The off gas, after plasma treatment and possibly desulp hurisation, could be used as the reducing gas in a direct reduction pr ocess.
