Na. Madigan et al., PREPARATION OF MICROARRAY ELECTRODES BY SONOCHEMICAL ABLATION OF POLYMER-FILMS, Journal of the Electrochemical Society, 141(3), 1994, pp. 120000023-120000024
A new procedure for preparing arrays of microelectrodes based on sonoc
hemical ablation of thin insulating polymer films on electrode surface
s is described. Films are formed through the oxidative electropolymeri
zation of o-phenylenediamine and micron-diameter holes subsequently bu
rned through films by interfacial acoustic cavitation. Electrodes prep
ared in this way exhibit steady-state currents in quiescent solution a
nd yield lower detection limits than bare electrodes. This preparation
procedure has the potential advantage of being scalable to prepare ar
rays of arbitrary size.
