Abstract
One hundred and four Finnish coaches participated in this study of the psychometric properties of the coach's version of the Leadership Scal e for Sports (LSS). The internal consistency estimates were above sati sfactory level in the dimension of training and instruction, democrati c behavior, social support behavior, and rewarding behavior. The dimen sion of autocratic behavior was low in internal consistency, and it al so correlated significantly with social desirability. Both convergent and discriminant validity of the LSS were supported by Campbell and Fi ske's multitrait-multimethod analysis in which coaches' ratings of the mselves on the five definitions were the alternative method. Based on these results, it was concluded that the coach's version of the Leader ship Scale for Sports can be seen as a valid instrument in leadership research provided the results concerning autocratic behavior be viewed with caution.
