Abstract
Approximate simple formulae valid for all barrier heights for the long itudinal relaxation time of a single domain ferromagnetic particle wit h uniaxial anisotropy are compared with the exact solution. It is conc luded that a formula based on the application of a variational princip le to the Sturm-Liouville equation associated with Brown's Fokker-Plan ck equation yields the closest approximation to the exact solution.
