Aj. Fowler et A. Bejan, FORCED-CONVECTION IN BANKS OF INCLINED CYLINDERS AT LOW REYNOLDS-NUMBERS, International journal of heat and fluid flow, 15(2), 1994, pp. 90-99
This study documents the pressure drop and heat transfer through bundl
es of parallel cylinders in a domain that has been overlooked, namely,
low Reynolds numbers, arrays that are long in the direction of flow s
uch that the flow is hydraulically and thermally fully developed, and
cylinders inclined relative to the flow direction. The numerical resul
ts cover the range 1 less-than-or-equal-to Re(D) less-than-or-equal-to
30, 0.72 less-than-or-equal-to Pr less-than-or-equal-to 100, 0.6 less
-than-or-equal-to phi less-than-or-equal-to 0.95 and 0-degrees less-th
an-or-equal-to beta less-than-or-equal-to 60-degrees, where phi is the
porosity of the bundle as a saturated porous medium, and beta is the
angle between the cylinder centerline and the direction perpendicular
to the flow direction. The accuracy is verified by means of experiment
al measurements of the pressure drop across a bundle with 115 cylinder
s in the flow direction, in the range 8 < Re(D) < 50, 0.84 less-than-o
r-equal-to phi less-than-or-equal-to 0.92 and 0-degrees less-than-or-e
qual-to beta less-than-or-equal-to 60-degrees. The results show that s
ignificant errors may occur if the available large-Re(D) information i
s extrapolated to the domain covered by this study.
