Random samples from a schoolchildren population living in different cl
imatic and geographic regions were entered in the standard epidemiolog
ical survey. They were examined for plasma lipids vs. arterial pressur
e and physical development. Pegion-specific predictors of atherosclero
sis were elucidated in Russian schoolchildren as an example. Cholester
ol levels proved significantly higher in Tallinn schoolchildren (north
west territories), while the lowest ones occurred in Ashkhabad childre
n (south territories).
