The title compound, C25H28O11, is formed by a homoaldol condensation o f methyl [4-methoxy-2-(methoxymethylenoxy)phenyl]pyruvate followed by lactonization, The structure consists of a butenolide ring substituted at the 2 position by an arylmethyl and a methyl carboxylate group, at the 3 position by an aryl group and at the 2 position by a hydroxyl g roup. The solid-state structure contains a hydrogen-bonded cyclic dime r. The hydrogen bonds are formed between the enol H atom of one molecu le and the lactone carbonyl O atom of another.
