Ty. Yang et E. Goo, AL2TI PRECIPITATION IN AL64FE8TI28 ALLOY, Metallurgical and materials transactions. A, Physical metallurgy andmaterials science, 25(4), 1994, pp. 715-721
Precipitates of Al2Ti with three different stacking sequences have bee
n observed in Fe-modified L1(2)-type ordered Al3Ti specimens. Two of t
he stacking sequences have been observed previously. The third type of
Al2Ti, Al2TiIII, is identified in this study using conventional and h
igh-resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The Al2Ti preci
pitates form as plates along {100} planes and compression tests perfor
med at liquid N temperature show microcracks occurring along those {10
0} planes. The Al2Ti phase is believed to be responsible for the low c
leavage strength that is observed.
