Abstract
An overview of russian and foreign works on methods for analyzing and synthesizing modular data processing systems is presented. Models, met hods, and formalized techniques which make it possible to develop modu lar management information systems (MIS) of optimal design and operati onal characteristics ranging over a wide variety of purposes are given . Both the development problems and the experience of practical implem entation of software tools backing up computer-aided design of optimal and standardized modular MISs are discussed.
