Abstract
Variability of the optical homogeneity in not only magnitude but also form is measured along the axis of a brock of quartz glass. It is show n that remelting KU-1 quartz glass in a hydrogen atmosphere improves i ts optical homogeneity. The optical inhomogeneity of the quartz glass before remelting was caused by an excess concentration of free oxygen.
