Ar. Tatarsky et al., LONG-TERM RESULTS OF THROMBOCYTAPHERESIS INCLUDED IN COMBINED TREATMENT OF BRONCHIAL-ASTHMA, Terapevticeskij arhiv, 65(3), 1993, pp. 19-22
A long-term follow-up (within 18 months) has been conducted of bronchi
al asthma (BA) patients (a total of 29 cases with atopic, aspirin and
mixed BA forms) subjected to thrombocytapheresis. The examination perf
ormed in 12 month intervals included a berotec test, assessment of pla
telet aggregation, platelet intracellular calcium metabolism, external
respiration function (ERF). The treatment resulted in remission of 4-
18 month duration. It was characterized by ERF normalization, high sen
sitivity to sympathomimetics, platelet status improvement. The best re
sults were achieved in the groups of atopic and aspirin asthma patient
s. The findings allow recommendation of thrombocytapheresis as a metho
d of choice in combined therapy of BA.
