In order to investigate the angular inclination of the articular emine
nce in relation to the Camper line, its average value and the range, a
s well as variability of the angle regarding side, sex and loss of tee
th, in this investigation 98 skull dry specimens (45 dentulous and 53
edentulous) were included. Measurements were performed by craniometric
method. Articular eminence in the left TMJ is slightley steeper (aver
age), but asymmetry of articular eminence's inclination can be occasio
naly up to 20 angular degrees. Although rare, symmetry is more often t
he case in edentulous skulls. Significant sexual dimorphism is present
only in edentulous skulls. There is very large range of articular emi
nence inclination interindividually and it has to be pointed out that
the average value is of only orientational significance.
