Abstract
Gibson's 1954 article is paradoxical: This forward-looking review of v isual motion perception anticipates developments in the field, yet tho se developments were achieved without closely following Gibson's foots teps. This commentary offers several possible reasons for the dormancy of Gibson's ideas about motion perception and evaluates contemporary work on motion perception in the context of Gibson's perspective.
