Four strains of Brevibacterium linens were tested on their ability to
use whey proteins as sole N-source. Most strains grew only with native
, not with denatured proteins. Degradation of casein was inhibited in
presence of whey proteins in case of strain LBT 102 but not in case of
strain DSM 20426. All strains degraded both native alpha-lactablumin
and beta-lactoglobulin.
