Re. Toombs et Tm. Craig, A CLINICAL-TRIAL DEMONSTRATING THE FINANCIAL IMPACT OF DEWORMING COWSAND CALVES IN EAST TEXAS, Agri-Practice, 15(3), 1994, pp. 29-32
The financial gain of deworming livestock in East Texas can be enormou
s, according to the results of this study of a herd of crossbred Simbr
a and Braford first-calf heifers near Huntsville, Texas. In the study,
a broad spectrum anthelmintic, oxfendazole (Synanthic(R):Syntex Anima
l Health, West Des Moines, Iowa) was used to evaluate the economic imp
act of twice-a-year deworming by treating dams only, calves only, or b
oth the dams and calves. Adjusted 205-day weaning weights, days from c
alving to conception (days open), and pregnancy rates were the determi
nant variables measured in the study.
