The dispersion of the Faraday rotation and MCD were investigated in th
e antiferromagnetic garnet Ca3Fe2Ge3O12 in the wavelength region from
0.4 to 0.8 mum and at temperatures between 7 and 300 K. The temperatur
e dependences were observed to obey the Curie-Weiss law in the paramag
netic region above T(N) = 12.2 K. The one-ion model enabled us to dete
rmine the individual contributions to the Faraday rotation originating
from the octahedral Fe3+ ions. The diamagnetic contribution plays the
dominant role being several orders of magnitude higher than the other
ones.
