Continuous flow-through column experiments have been performed to dete
rmine the sorption of uranium in granite-hematite mixtures. The result
s obtained have shown the importance that oxy-hydroxy iron compounds p
resent as fracture fillings can have in the uranium retardation in its
migration through the geosphere. The experimental results showed the
reversibility of the sorption process and have been successfully fitte
d with a model combining both thermodynamic and kinetic terms.
