Hh. Janzen et C. Gilbertson, EXCHANGE OF N-15 AMONG PLANTS IN CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT STUDIES, Canadian Journal of Soil Science, 74(1), 1994, pp. 109-110
Barley receiving unlabelled nitrogen fertilizer was grown among treatm
ents receiving (Ca(NO3)2)-N-15 fertilizer (5 atom %) in a growth cabin
et with high air exchange and in a greenhouse. In both environments, t
he unlabelled plants and soil were significantly enriched with 15N, ap
parently, in part, by foliar exchange of atmospheric ammonia. This exc
hange may warrant consideration in the selection of appropriate contro
ls for N-15 calculations.
