A. Berg et al., REDUCTION MAMMAPLASTY - A WAY HELPING FEMALES WITH NECK, SHOULDER ANDBACK PAIN SYMPTOMS, European journal of plastic surgery, 17(2), 1994, pp. 84-86
This study documents that the excessive weight of the female breast ca
n lead to, or increase, existing pain symptoms of the neck, shoulder a
nd upper trunk. Consequently, a reduction mammaplasty has to be consid
ered as a mainly medical indication in women with permanent musculoske
letal pain symptoms in their medical history since surgery reduces the
pain symptoms, increases the capacity to work, improves self-confiden
ce and life conditions. The various technical procedures for reduction
mammaplasty with a low postoperative complication rate give excellent
results in correctly selected patients.
