C. Vinckier et N. Vanhoof, RATE-CONSTANT OF THE ALPHA-PINENE PLUS ATOMIC-HYDROGEN REACTION AT 295-K, International journal of chemical kinetics, 26(5), 1994, pp. 527-534
The rate constant of the reaction of alpha-pinene with atomic hydrogen
was determined at 295 K using the fast-flow reactor technique directl
y coupled to a mass spectrometric detection technique. The value was f
ound to be equal to (9.8 +/- 3.3) x 10(-13) cm3 molecules-1 s-1 and in
dependent of the helium pressure between 1 and 2 torr. The major react
ion product formed is pinane showing that the stabilization of the add
uct radical C10H17, followed by a subsequent hydrogen atom addition s
tep, is the important reaction route. (C) 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
