Acute intestinal infections (AII) are characterized by marked defects
of immune homeostasis. These were not related to the disease etiology
though depended on the infection severity and manifested with T-lympho
penia, reduced count of circulating T-helper cells in normal amount of
T-supressor cells. This resulted in low immunoregulatory index (CD-4/
CD-8). Immunological criteria have been determined indicative of the t
endency to formation of a protracted AII course and long-term persiste
nce of the agent in the host.
