Exploring the equivalence between a nonlocal potential and a velocity-
dependent potential we show how to construct a nonlocal potential whic
h is able to generate the squeezing effect. In this scheme it is shown
that, while the coherence comes from the diagonal part of the nonloca
l potential V(x, x'), the squeezing effect emerges from its off-diagon
al part. A brief discussion of the results is given.
