P. Gremillet et al., LIP-MODEL-BASED 3-DIMENSIONAL RECONSTRUCTION AND VISUALIZATION OF HIV-INFECTED ENTIRE CELLS, Journal of Microscopy, 174, 1994, pp. 31-38
This paper presents a global solution from acquisition to visualizatio
n for the three-dimensional reconstruction of cell sections. Original
techniques are proposed for the correct handling of the geometrical se
ction distortions, and a new interpretation based on the logarithmic i
mage processing (LIP) model is applied in order to create normalized g
rey-level sections where these are missing. Finally, a new method for
generating a mesh of triangles to describe the envelope of the reconst
ructed cell is proposed, as well as a visualization mixing image synth
esis and grey-level information. The product allows the user to explor
e the reconstructed cellular block in any desired direction, by showin
g user-defined grey-level sections inside the block mixed to a synthet
ic view of the cell envelope.
