This paper provides detailed descriptions of three species of Pyrenula
from India, of which P. subcamptospora Upreti is described as a new s
pecies, and P. pinguis Fee and P. oculifera Vainio are new records for
the Indian lichen flora. The Pyrenula camptospora-type of spores are
4-chambered and bean-shaped. The middle spore chambers are subglobose,
and the apical ones are very small and elongated longitudinally or ro
unded (Pl. I, fig. 7 ; Pl. II, fig. 11, 12). The Pyrenula pinguis type
of spores are 4-chambered and oblong-ellipsoid. All the four spore ch
ambers are elongated longitudinally and apices are thick walled (Pl. I
, fig. 8.9 ; Pl. II, 15, 16).
