A new neutron-deficient isotope Rn-196 has been produced and identifie
d on the basis of genetic correlations in the Er-166 (Ar-36, 6n) Rn-19
6 (E(lab) = 208 MeV) reaction. By using a gas-filled recoil separator
and a position-sensitive silicon detector (PSD) placed at its focal pl
ane, the alpha-decay energy and half-life of Rn-196 have been determin
ed to be 7492 +/- 30 keV and 3(-2)(+7) ms, respectively.
