Review of applications of automatic image analysis for the metallurgy
of nickel based superalloys. Brief presentation of the development of
these materials, more especially their various types of microstructure
met ; evaluation of the use of image analysis as an inspection and st
udy tool. The use of this technique is still relatively limited, espec
ially because of imagery difficulties. A few extracts from literature
point out the existence of various pertinent scales for the structural
characterization of these materials. The last part is devoted to the
interest of other techniques for the quantitative characterization of
the microstructures of these superalloys.
