We present experimental results about a position-sensitive gamma detec
tor with a diameter of 75 mm, a position resolution of 3.5 mm, and a g
ood linearity for 662 keV gamma rays using a NaI or plastic scintillat
or. The detector is designed to solve some of the Anger camera's reado
ut problems and to be as close as possible to the sample in a 90-degre
es perturbed angular correlation experiment. It might substitute up to
100 smaller detectors with the same angular resolution or could cover
70% of the 4pi geometry in crystal ball experiments. The setup allows
easy and fast signal processing in angular correlation experiments du
e to the use of point symmetry in the experiment as well as in data an
alysis.
