Abstract
Three distinct nitric oxide synthase genes are expressed in the cerebr al arterial wall. Constitutive isoforms are localized in endothelium a nd perivascular nerves, whereas only inducible enzyme is present in sm ooth muscle cells, demonstrating the complex role of nitric oxide in r egulation of cerebral arterial tone.
