Abstract
Site-specific endonuclease R Bce83I and methylase M Bce83I were isolat ed from Bacillus cereus 83 by three consecutive chromatographies on bl ue agarose, hydroxyapatite, and heparin-Sepharose. R Bce83I recognizes the (5'-CTTGAG16N-3'down arrow)(3'-GAACTC14N-5'up arrow) Sequence on the DNA and cleaves the DNA as indicated by the arrows. The endonuclea se is stimulated by S-adenosyl-L-methionine. Therefore, it is a type I V restriction enzyme.
