Gl. Olson et al., STARK BROADENED PROFILES WITH SELF-CONSISTENT RADIATION TRANSFER AND ATOMIC KINETICS IN PLASMAS PRODUCED BY HIGH-INTENSITY LASERS, Journal of quantitative spectroscopy & radiative transfer, 51(1-2), 1994, pp. 255-261
Spectral line shapes and line strengths have long been used to diagnos
e plasma temperatures and densities. In dense plasmas, the additional
broadening due to Stark effects gives additional information about the
plasma density. We present calculations that are self-consistent in t
hat the radiation fields of the line transitions and the atomic kineti
cs are iterated to convergence. Examples are given for simple plasmas
with temperature gradients, density gradients, and velocity fields. Th
en a more complex example of a laser produced plasma is presented.
