Studies have been made an the field strength near a ferromagnetic magn
etized by a surface-mounting device SMD having a Pi-shaped circuit. Fo
r a certain current in the winding and a certain relation between the
sizes of the specimen and the poles, an almost uniform magnetic field
is set up between the poles, whose strength is equal to the value of t
he internal field and is close to the coercive force H-c. If the field
is measured at that instant in the space between the poles, one can d
etermine H-c quite accurately, and when the specimen is reversed along
the recovery curve from the partially demagnetized state, one can det
ermine the retaining force h(c) in the monitored area.
