Abstract
A study is made of the magnetostriction of steels 09G2S, 171SU, 20N2M, 15KhSND, St3, and 15. The results confirm that the plastically deform ed material contains oriented compressive stresses and explains the an omalous increase seen in magnetoelastic sensitivity during mechanical loading.
