Abstract
The rarely collected species originally described as Cirripathes desbo nni is redescribed based on two specimens. A neotype is designated bec ause the type is presumed to be lost. A new genus, Allopathes, is prop osed for this species based on its unusual colony form: numerous elong ate, mostly unbranched stems originating from a short, trunk-like base . Antipathes robillardi Bell is also placed in this genus, which gives the genus a range of western Atlantic and Mauritius at 129-161 m.
